Dealership groups on the list performed better than the industry as a whole in a year that saw overall U.S. light-vehicle sales decline. The top 150 groups collectively retailed 3,233,234 new vehicles, down 6.7 percent from 2021, according to the Automotive News Research & Data Center, which compiles the list. Combined retail and fleet sales for the groups on the list were 3,440,740 new vehicles, down 5.8 percent. By contrast, overall industry new-vehicle sales tumbled 7.9 percent last year.
